Summer Musings
« on: May 25, 2007, 09:53:54 AM »
::) This year is moving like a speeding bullet! Lots happening at Bauman College. Our spring Distance Learning seminar in Berkeley was a great success. DL students came from near and far to meet one another, enjoy lectures on Bringing Eating for Health into the Schools and Clinical Pearls: Tips for a Successful Clinical Practice. I shared the materials and procedures I use at the Bauman Nutrition Clinic (www.BaumanNutrition.com). That was followed by a fabulous organic meal prepared by our Natural Chef instructors and students.

Classroom programs are going great. We have some sections finishing up, giving final reports in NE and NC, which is so powerful. Our students each deliver presentations on topics of their choosing for a community setting in NE, such as a parent group, health club, business or school, or clinical setting in NC, such as a medical office, academic or research group. The clarity, joy and practicality of these warms my heart. We inspire each student to find her own voice, organize information in a way that will make a difference to their audience. I trust many of the NE students will continue in the school by taking NC or the Natural Chef program.

Our Natural Chef students are cooking up a storm. This is a booming field right now in CA and around the country. The excitement around eating fresh, local, seasonal and organic foods is growing by leaps and bounds, as witnessed by recent cover stories in  popular magazines such as Time, Newsweek, the New York Times Sunday magazine and others. Look for an article by Mary Vance in the August Utne Reader on Soy foods, wherein I am quoted extensively.

The Bauman College Nutrition Analysis Tool is now available to our students and will soon be available to graduates. It will allow them to evaluate a person's dietary intake and print out snazzy reports with 4 color pie charts. Additionally, nutrition professionals can create recipes and meal plans for their clients and families and easily access nutritional information about healthy foods and display the excessive calories, fats, salts, and sugars in refined commercial food.

I wish you a wonderful summer and encourage you to visit the college in person or via a virtual tour. Call to set that up. Many blessings and good health to you and yours.
