Extreme anxiety disorder
« on: May 29, 2012, 01:34:58 PM »
Hello any advice is appreciated. I have been dealing with extreme anxiety for the past couple years, it's just getting worse and worse. I have extreme fear now of driving due to not feeling like I can breath. I'm very anxious in cars and everywhere I go, it's almost like I have a huge knot very high in my stomach, which could be my adrenals. I have seen Dr shames and he recommended adrenal hormone and thyroid hormone, because he said I have second stage adrenal fatigue and low side of thyroid but still in normal range. I have tried everything not for long because I get very discouraged. Can anyone give me a layout on what I should take for anxiety to really help calm me down and help me get through day to day.
Thank you so much for your time..

I have suffered from anxiety in my life as well. I found that an herb Holy Basil really worked wonders for me. Also, try to practice some deep belly breathing when you are mid anxiety attack. Breath four counts in and four counts out while sitting straight with good posture. That will help calm down your central nervous system. Get your blood moving and get some regular exercise and be sure that you are feeding your body lots of healthy organic greens. Stay away from sugars, fried foods and processed foods as they seem to make my anxiety worse. I also keep a tincture of lavender oil in my purse and smell it when I'm feeling anxious. Drinking chamomile tea can also help sooth your nerves as well. Good luck!

I understand how difficult this is for you.  The  suggestions from Victoria are great, especially managing blood sugar with nutrient dense foods. I would elongate the exhale to 6-8 counts and do this while lying down.  In addition, resting with the knees about the heart (use a wedge or lots of pillows), getting 9-10 hours of sleep nightly, reading the Adrenal Fatigue book by James L Wilson, and getting acupuncture would be my suggestions.

To that I would add special breathing exercises that will rebalance the oxygen and CO2.  If your resting pulse is rapid (>90) most of the time and you have difficulty holding your breath, then you may want to explore the Buteyko method.  And if you wish to have a therapist teach you this method, Kathy Winslow in the Bay Area is an excellent resource.

I think that adrenal glandulars may be too strong at this time, given what you describe.
