Migraine Relief
« on: June 17, 2012, 06:40:58 AM »
This past Friday, my vertigo symptoms developed into a full blown, debilitating migraine.  I could barely talk due to noise sensitivity, it was difficult to move, and when I did walk, I had to keep a towel over my eyes because of the extreme light sensitivity.  A friend took me to the ER and they gave me a shot of Toradol.  I don't get migraines often; I had my first one after sinus surgery a year and a half ago and have had 3 since.  3 out of the 4 I have needed to go to the hospital to get an injection of Toradol.  It's amazing how well it works, but I have been reading that they can make migraines worse over time.  Does anyone know of more natural remedies to relieve such intense pain from migraines?  After looking through the forum, I only found caffeine, but I am really sensitive to it, even in tea.

Magnesium can be very helpful: 400 - 800 mg magnesium bis-glycinate, divided doses.

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin), high dose: 400 mg

Feverfew, taken on an ongoing basis for prevention, not on an as-needed basis for pain relief. Not sure of dosages.

I wonder what the connection is between your surgery and the onset of migraines? Any ideas? Did you take antibiotics and not replenish gut flora? Could you have developed food sensitivities?

That connection is also something I have wondered, and it was my second sinus surgery.  I was on antibiotics as well as high doses of Vicodin and eating a SAD diet at the time.  The second migraine came 6 months later and I had transitioned to a raw food diet by then.  I was put on Vicodin for several weeks for pain from a spinal tap (they thought I had meningitis).  Food sensitivity has definitely been a thought, I plan on getting tests done soon!

Although ive never had a migraine as bad as the one described above, i tend to get them occasionally with my monthly cycle. They tend to last 2 days, are located across my forehead, and do not improve with sleep. Does this happen to any of you other ladies out there? If so, id love to hear some of the things youve tried. Thanks
