It's winter time once again - cold weather, cloudy skies, rain, less daylight and more firelight. Winter is a time for many animals to hibernate, to seclude themselves from the world while they wait for more bountiful days ahead. But here at Bauman College, we're creating our own abundance, no matter the season! We are spreading out and making connections with our community, both locally and at a distance; we have an incredible new crop of students and classes are full to bursting in most of our locations; we continue to roll out updates to our curriculum and the way we present it, especially for Distance Learning students, who increasingly benefit from new technologies in educational content delivery; and we're expanding our business focus as well, allowing us to directly offer a broader range of services like clinical nutrition consultation, as well as providing opportunities for graduates with intern programs and even direct employment possibilities. Yes, it's a good time to be here at Bauman College!
Change is in the air across our industry, and much of it is exciting and positive. Just a few weeks ago Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California signed SB 1420 into law, requiring chain restaurants in California with over 20 locations to provide nutritional information on menus or menu boards by 2011. July of 2008 marked the deadline for restaurants in New York City to comply with a ban on trans fats enacted there in 2006. Taking that initiative a step further, a state-wide ban on trans fats was passed in California in 2008, with a deadline of 2010 for restaurants and 2011 for baked goods compliance, making California the first state to pass such legislation. Clearly the mainstream is waking up to what we've known about for so long, and this is a very good thing.
As the public gains health awareness and concern, they will be hungry for information and resources they can trust. We are working hard to make sure people will know that Bauman nutritionists and natural chefs are their best choice for practical, real-world, scientifically validated information, advice, and service.
Our curriculum has always been a stand-out feature of our programs, teaching a wealth of critical and readily applicable nutrition information, and providing the tools to utilize it in the real world. To that solid foundation we are now adding the development of an internship program, which will provide vital hands-on experience and be a springboard to successful business practice.
Our internship program is being developed in part as an off-shoot of our new clinical services department, which comes to us as a result of a merge with
Bauman Nutrition, Dr. Bauman's successful nutrition consultation and health products company. Through the summer of this year we worked on joining together to better promote our common goals, and now Bauman College is able to offer the popular Vital Scoop product as well as nutrition consultation services directly through Bauman Nutrition, as a core part of our organization. On the education side of things, interns who participate in our upcoming program will gain practical, mentored experience in Bauman Nutrition clinical practice, as part of a program that will also offer low-cost consultation services to the community.
Speaking of our community, we are also finding great success in our expanded outreach programs, raising awareness about health and the value of our graduates at public events, and in the eyes of key public policy makers, as well as creating opportunities for our graduates in schools, retreat centers, health clubs, and more. Our commitments to health and the success of our graduates are now being realized in more and more exciting ways, as a result of the success we have enjoyed.
While the world is indeed facing difficult times economically, we are firm believers that such a crisis is not something we can take lying down. As the costs of fuel, transportation, and “big business” in general rise, local, whole, healthy food will become more and more the only sensible option. Being healthy and environmentally conscious will make sense to everyone, both ethically and economically.
Yet we are still at the beginning of the great changes to come and many people haven't taken their first steps toward a broader view of health. Some people just need a wake-up call! Bauman Nutrition offers a fantastic, free online Diet and Lifestyle Evaluation evaluation that is self-scoring. Share with your friends, family, and clients, and help them take that first step:
FREE Diet and Lifestyle EvaluationAs we near the end of 2008 and look toward the future, it is clear that there is still much to do on our exciting journey, and we are blessed to share it with all of you. As always, a big thank you is owed to our fantastic community of students, alumni, clients, faculty, and staff. Our success is your success!
